This bluestone firepit was part of a larger project with landscape architect Jay Thayer. The goal was to create a sophisticated piece of stone work that still had some rustic elements to fit into the architectural style of Marin county. The firepit is sawn as well as snapped ledge bluestone from Bay Area Bluestone in San Rafael.
The firebrick are very high quality IXL sandstone from McNear Brick in San Rafael CA. We created the brick pattern to have some interest behind the fire. The stone design was a combination of ideas from Peter Warren and Jay Thayer.
Note that we do all our work with very tight mortar joints unless the clients request otherwise. The curved stone cap was cut and chiseled on site by our masons. Great care is taken with the selection of each piece of stone.
